RE: Cameo and Carri-Lite 30 ft wall slideouts

I just went over onto the Carriage forum and did a search for the F36FWS. None of the results mentioned any issues with the slide. I pulled one back from the factory for our dealer recently. (It had the MorRyde pinbox on it and pulled so well I ordered one for our trailer.) The slide is relatively narrow, but there sure seems to be a lot of room inside.

RE: Mor/Ryde Kingpin

We've had the MorRyde suspension on each of our last two Cameos and we added the MorRyde pinbox to the current one. I won't call the ride perfect, but it is a noticeable improvement.

RE: Thinking of putting tool box in my F450

I have a low profile crossover tool box in my Ram 3500. No clearance problems at all, even at a near 90 degree angle. The only issue one may have is being able to see the hitch while backing into the pin box. Fortunately I'm tall enough that it's not a problem Now, that may be enhanced on my truck because the hitch is at its lowest point due to the height of the truck. Your truck/hitch height may be different.

RE: shopping for a 5th wheel

We purchased our first 5er about 5 years ago. We were fortunate in having a close relative who'd already had a few 5th wheels. On our camping trips together we asked a lot of questions and "picked their brains" about 5th wheels. When we were ready to make our own purchase we were pretty well prepared for the search. A couple of the more memorable points made were to open and close every door and drawer in the trailer and listen to how it sounded and felt; then to just sit back in it for awhile and evaluate all the features to determine if there was anything we really didn't like. As other posts have said, there is a lot of information to be garnered from this forum. We found going to RV shows was a big help as well. Good luck with your search.

RE: Plugged In?

During the camping season our trailer is always plugged in while at home and the refrigerator is on. We have some foods that we keep stocked in the fridge or freezer all season. No problem with overcharging the battery.

RE: no Water preasure on one side of sink only?

Making the assumption (I know, that's dangerous) that all the other cold water outlets such as the lavetory, shower, and auxillary shower, are operating properly it would seem the problem is reduced to the kitchen faucet or the line leading to it. Any valves in the line that could have failed, or could the line have become pinched at some point?

RE: Rocks that explode around the campfire

This isn't exactly the same, but I believe it can lend credence to the subject:
Several years ago I investigated a death caused by an old cast iron barrel stove exploding. It took a long time to get to the bottom of it, but the short version is that the stove had sat outside for several years. After moving it to a usable location (also outside) a fire was started and stoked to a high temperature. What the investigation determined, with the help of the state fire marshall, was that the cast iron had become saturated with water. When the fire quickly reached a high temperature over a short period of time it caused the water to convert to steam and subsequently explode. A long, low temp fire would have allowed the stove to "dry out" and "cure".
I think it's reasonable that some kinds of rock could behave in the same manner.

RE: Trail Air or Mor/ryde

Our last two trailers have had the MorRyde suspension; this one also has a MorRyde pinbox. We've noticed the suspension really smooths things out and seldom have anything move out of place. The pinbox significantly reduces the front to back "chucking"; it seems to eliminate the small bumps and does a good job of smoothing out the larger ones. I don't have any experience with the TrailAir.

RE: How to attach a thermometer to record exterior temps

I place the remote transmitter between the side of the slide and the rubber seal. It has to be installed/removed each time we set-up/tear down, but it's just part of my routine.

RE: Nada guides vs. dealer price

Offer what you think it's worth to you. Don't worry about how much the dealer paid for it or how much he gave the guy on trade-in or how much they're going to make on it --- you'll drive yourself nuts. Plus, his profit margin is really none of your business. Paying what you consider to be a fair price IS your business. Don't over-complicate things.
I think he's got it right. We recently traded units and I just used the higher NADA values for each of the units; I offered the dealer an amount approximately the difference between the two. He accepted it and we're both happy.:B
Some people really like to barter back and forth, and that's all right. I'm not good at it and prefer to set my price. As long as we're both dealing in good faith I'm satisfied. Good luck in your search.

RE: Carriage's Cameo model

Hmmm. Not sure where you got your numbers. Carriage's site list that unit as 10220 dry axle weight, 2280 hitch weight, total dry weight 12500. Average load capacity 2499. I've seen several Cameos towed with SRW vehicles; haven't done it myself. But I gotta tell ya, I feel really comfortable towing with our dually.

RE: Carriage cameo

We're on our second Cameo. When we went looking to replace the previous Cameo we took a trip to our dealer...and never got any further. He had a new carryover unit (the one in our signature) and we ended up bringing it home. We've been impressed with the Cameo quality and the very few problems we've had were quickly fixed by our dealer. He's a little out of your area, but the dealer is Pickard Trailer Sales in Fairfield, Iowa. The heat pump is a nice feature and a 2nd A/C would be nice (wish we had the 2nd one). I've been especially appreciative of the rear basement. Ours has the three section xylogen lighting and we really like it. It's a lot of money, but we believe it's a good value. Good luck with your search.

RE: Dodge Ram 3500

The truck in our signature is an auto tranny and is about to turn over 125,000 miles. Our last trailer was about 12K loaded and the current one is probably about 13.5K loaded (haven't weighed it yet). I know we're slightly exceeding the prescirbed total weights, but this thing just keeps pulling without a complaint. We usually got between 10.5-12 mpg with the former trailer. Limited towing of the current trailer indicated we'll be around 9.5-10.5. Hope this helps.

RE: Water filter

Following a camping buddy's example, I connected an adjustable regulator (from Camping World) to a whole house filter cannister, then attached one of those hose/spring accessories to either side of the assembly. I placed the filter of my choice in the cannister and after cutting notches to accomodate the hose/spring accessories, lowered the entire assembly into a 5 gallon bucket. I have a short section of hose that goes between the "filter" and the hydrant and then connect the supply hose between the "filter" and the trailer. When traveling, the short section of hose is rolled up and placed inside the bucket. The lid keeps most critters out. The entire assembly fits easily in my curbside basement door. I can adjust the pressure if need be, and I've found that even at a reasonable 45 psi, the amount of flow has increased.

Eating my words (again)

After emphatically stating (repeatedly) the last couple of years that we'd purchased our last trailer I have to confess that we yielded to temptation. :o Our dealer had a new, carry-over '06 Cameo on the lot. After several days of soul searching and negotiations we traded our '02 Cameo off. Just completed our first weekend trip with it and are really pleased with it. A couple of minor issues need to be addressed, but we have an awfully good dealer, so they won't be a problem. Anyone know of a good counselor that one can utilize to rid oneself of this affliction?:W

RE: Garmin "regional maps" ?

Thanks for the reply. Can't say we're really planning any trips to Canada but, as retirement looms closer, there's an increased liklihood of it. Best Buy has an online special for the Nuvi 250W, so I think I'll take a really close look at it.

Garmin "regional maps" ?

Haven't shown my ignorance for awhile, but this seems to be a good opportunity. I'm looking to purchase another gps unit, but I'm not going to spend a bundle on it. I was comparing some of the lower priced units on Garmin's site and when it came to the maps they specified "(regional)" for the Nuvi 200W. I had the initial impression all the nuvi units contained all the street level maps for the U.S. Now, I'm not so sure. I'd appreciate somone setting me straight. Thanks.

RE: Poked a hole in the kitchen sink!

My repair suggestions would be either epoxy or JB Weld. As previously stated, you'd still see the cracks, but they would be sealed. Good luck.
